When Did Treason Become Trendy in Nigeria?
When did standing against your own country start earning applause?Every time someone shouts “Free Nnamdi Kanu,” what they’re really saying is that it’s okay to insult Nigeria’s unity and still expect a pat on the back. It’s madness and it must be called out for what it is.
Let’s be honest: Nnamdi Kanu is not a freedom fighter. He’s an agitator who used hate, propaganda, and fear to divide Nigerians. His reckless speeches and broadcasts led to bloodshed, destroyed communities, and deepened ethnic tension.
Yet somehow, voices like Omoyele Sowore and a few other attention seekers have turned his case into a publicity stunt a way to score cheap points while pretending to champion democracy. That’s not activism; that’s manipulation.
Patriotism Is Not About Defending Those Who Destroy It
Nigeria doesn’t need emotional speeches or hashtags. What we need is law, order, and accountability. You don’t build a nation by defending people who threaten its peace. You don’t strengthen democracy by turning rebellion into entertainment.
If Kanu’s supporters truly cared about justice, they would acknowledge the pain and loss his actions caused ordinary Nigerians. But no they’d rather spin his prosecution into some “human rights” narrative just to stay relevant online. Let’s call it what it is: political opportunism wearing a mask of activism.
Rewarding Treason Is a National Disaster Waiting to Happen
Nigeria cannot and must not reward treason. History has shown that when we start bending laws to please sentiments, we invite chaos. Let one agitator go unpunished, and ten more will rise tomorrow waving new flags of division.
And to those like Sowore who use Kanu’s case to build clout you’re not heroes; you’re opportunists playing with the country’s stability for attention. There’s nothing brave about turning a nation’s pain into a campaign slogan.
